First-ever ECE Career Fair builds student careers and alumni connections

Local companies set up stands in the EECS Atrium to recruit from over 200 graduate and undergraduate students.

The ECE division hosted its very first career fair on October 29, the day before the College-wide graduate symposium. Local companies of all sizes and from many industries set up stands in the EECS Atrium to recruit from over 200 registered graduate and undergraduate students.

Over 15 companies were in attendance, several of them either founded or led by alumni.

While the College of Engineering hosts a college-wide career fair each year, alumni and employers often find that they were unable to meet with a large number of ECE students. As ECE fields cross many different industries, there has been an increased demand for electrical and computer engineers from a wide range of companies and institutions.

Timing the fair in conjunction with the grad symposium gave recruiters the opportunity to see the candidates’ research in action the very next day. Many useful connections were made, and the event will be back in future years.
